I wish someone would write a exhaustive book on Raku/atmospheric style firings- Hint Hint

  2. Got  my 2 new raku kilns sprayed with rigidizer. Now they just need the kiln shed finished to get them protected from the weather. Last year it snowed -22" around Sept. 15th. First frost ( its late this year) is expected next weekend. Happy to have those kilns out of the studio. I now have 3 raku kilns outside the dining room patio door.  It makes it easy to read the pyrometer.3rakukilnssmall.jpg.26fc1b75a9b0421dd52ddab4ccaa9ae1.jpg

My  extension to old wooden kiln shed weill have all metal clear story with windows and exhaust fans 2 barn doors and 14 ft ceiling slanting down to10 or 12'. I already have 4 kilns to go inside. My tiny demo kiln I built for taping my online courses. I have a sawed -ed oil drum with the tope third removed, a 2' high x 2'wide chamber to sit on brick plus my large pulley or topcoat kiln. Very excite to be able to fire in winter. BUT I do regret not being able to fire much this summer.

  8. reglazed or touched up some of my pieces from my "disastrous" Saturday. It wasn't really all that bad. The pyrometer worked this morning during a firing. I only lost one piece and that was old. I wasn't upset about it.

  12. fired my test kiln yesterday. Loaded at 23 degrees, went down to -6 overnight. Not in a heated shed. That little kiln is 20+ years old. Only replaced a switch on it over this time. I have a spare element in case I need it. It just has a cone sitter and timer. Its a Crucible from Seattle pottery.

At the Millennium we celebrated Christmas three times because we went to Armenia after celebrating on Dec. 25, then we celebrated on the traditional day in Armenia and then again because of the old calendar in Armenia. They ceremoniously slaughtered sheep for the feast at the churches. Armenia is the oldest Christian country predat...
