Most of my art at this point has been focused on the detail in the sculpting or mosaics of each piece. I wanted to try a new line of work where the details were in the pattern of the glazes. This is one of the first of my new under-glaze series where I sculpted the cat in a simple cartoonist sitting fashion while applying a fun swirly design with matching whimsical colors on his eyes, and white wire whiskers. "Callie" the Calico Cat Sculpture was inspired by a stray cat that showed up at my door after his ' family' was forced to abandon their house during the beginning of our countries housing crises. I started feeding this darling cat and she became one of my many "adopted" outside kitties during these hard times. This was how I remember first seeing her looking at me, excited, hungry and just plain adorable. Even the stray animals that show up at my house have a place in my heart. I just can't take care of them all. This beauty was my outdoor watch cat for three years before she disappeared. I just have to hope she warmed the heart of another family who took her in. As with all my creations, Caille is a handmade, signed, one-of-a-kind sculpture that can be copied, but not duplicated. This beautiful Bichon Frise dog sculpture was hand formed and sculpted using individual strokes for each strand of fur for texture. I added a hand made collar with a metal heart pendant with glass crystals adding to her feminine physique. As with all my creations, this is a handmade, signed, one-of-a-kind sculpture that can be copied, but not duplicated. Each piece is lovingly hand formed, mosaics pieces are individually hand-cut, meticulously arranged, and the glazes are applied with three to six coats to achieve the best color enhancement. Rosebud is the perfect gift for any Corgi lover's home. He is made with love from high fired ceramics, sculpted hand textured fur with the application of various glazes. I added white wire to act as his whiskers, adding gold toned balls at the tips to add to his whimsical state. I also added a decorative gold toned metal charm to his attached collar. As with all my creations, this is a handmade, one-of-a-kind sculpture that can be copied, but not duplicated. The best subjects to use in the whimsy world are those that are comical already in the real world. This is why I often portray the likeness of the zany Chihuahua in my art. In this porcelain wall tile I incorporated one of the many facial expressions I often see this breed, adding, of course, a little extra emphasis to give it that whimsical feel.
