To be completely honest I did nothing to achieve the accent on the rim (I'm assuming you're thinking of the brownish metallic color?). Other than glazing it with those specific glazes. 

 

I'm guessing there's a chrome/zinc component to the glaze that happened to leave the accent by chance. You could possibly also achieve this by using iron oxide. As always, nothing is certain, and experimentation with the specific glaze is needed.
