Leaves Updated
My goal for these pieces was to create art straight from nature. The glazing was an intricate process. I used a combo of underglazing, red and yellow iron oxide staining, and a patchy gloss glaze on top. The result was a ceramic leaf that could pass for the real thing.

Woodfiring Updated
Having only fired in a wood kiln twice, I have enjoyed the camaraderie and results of wood firing. Being a grad student at SIUC has allowed me to experiment with different materials and techniques. The wood kiln asks for a willingness to think differently. Our kiln is on the small size and an arch style. The last firing took less than 24 hours but we were ash heavy!

Underglaze Drawn Vessels Updated
A happy find in a porcelain body allowed me to fire hotter and draw cleanly on clay without the need to glaze over it. These drawings are experiments with underglaze pencil. It's been a lot of fun!
