Topics I've Started

Black Lug

10 March 2014 - 10:29 PM

I just glaze fired a cone 6 Frost porcelain pot where the outside of the pot has multiple layers of black LUG, painted on both greenware and bisque. I don't want glaze on the outside, but I am wondering if the LUG needs something to protect it. Can I assume it is vitrified and reasonably sturdy? When it was just bisqued, it picked up fingerprints if I touched it. I am hoping it is more stable now.

Temp For Glaze Spraying

13 January 2014 - 03:39 PM

I am planning to start spraying glazes. My studio is way too small for a paint booth, so I will have to do this outside. Assuming it is not freezing, do I need to be concerned about air temperature?

Nashville Potters Council Symposium

16 September 2013 - 07:30 PM

The Nashville Symposium was fabulous. The presenters were excellent. The venue, Clay Lady/Mid South Ceramics did an extraordinary job hosting the Symposium, even providing gourmet meals made by their members. Given that this was my first PC Symposium, I don't know if this one was typical, but I look forward to attending another. Kudos to everyone involved in the Nashville Symposium!

Nashville In September

17 July 2013 - 10:56 AM

Are you going to Potter's Council in September? Where are you staying?

Oxide over terra sig

23 June 2013 - 08:30 AM

I want to put terra sig on greenware, bisque, then brush on and wipe off oxides or even black Lug underglaze to highlight texture. The one time I tried this, the oxide sat on top of the bisqued terra sig but would not soak in or even really attach to the pot. Suggestions, please?
