I am a beginner potter. I began my schooling in ceramics in the summer of 2010. I am primarily interested in making Pueblo (Native American) style pots. I began taking ceramic classes that specialized in earthenware Mica pottery. It has been awesome. I am also trying to branch out and try other Native clays as well. The pottery I am interested in making are rather traditional Native American pieces. I want to be able to dig the clay, temper it, and slip it using only local materials. I am not as interested in glazing as this was not practiced by my tribe. Also there is no use of a kiln since that is not traditional. My real goal is to be able to make mica cooking vessels that are usable. I really enjoy the pottery making process and I love searching for new clays sources. I have learned that by going out and searching about, I am becoming something of an ameature geologist; kind of cool. I am only a beginner so I feel I have so much to learn, and I an so excited and can't wait to try differing styles and designs pertaining to to this type of pottery making.
