One thing we do in the store I work in ( we do not ask the customer if they want help....they always say no). Is we ask them if they have been in the store before and then we hand them a pen with a chocolate ( I work in a chocolate store) attached to it and thank them for coming in. If you have a hard time talking to people offering them something for free usually gets their attention and ' breaks" the ice for you.
