This July, 2016, I will turn 69. I retired from a 35 year career as a remodeling contractor with the intention of focusing on some more mundane activities like ceramics, photography, farming, reading and generally keeping busy. Over the years I've used my innate skills of being able to fix things to help make peoples lives better and easier.
A long time ago when watching the movie "Ghost", I decided that when I retired, I was going to play with clay. It actually happened about seven years ago when one of my clients, who was an 87 year old active ceramist gave me a kiln and encouraged me to take a pottery class, which I did. From a local Learning Exchange class I moved on to taking Ceramics 1 & 2 at a local community college. During that time I picked up a kick wheel which was given to me by my Learning Exchange instructor, and a Creative Industries electric wheel, which was given to me by a friend who was cleaning out his barn and came across it. Both needed repairs, which were handled easily and I've been up and running. I just finished putting together my studio and also having recovered from a second hand surgery, am looking forward to getting my hands on the clay again after an 8 month hiatus.
