Forrest Gard
This forum is for participants of the 2015 Potters Council in Ireland trip. This will be a good place to share travel tips and introduce yourselves. I'll start. My name is Forrest Gard and I'll be representing the Potters Council and leading the trip in Ireland. I am currently the assistant editor for Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated and I am also a studio artist. I am originally from Athens, Ohio but have lived in Gainesville, Florida (to attend UF in 2010–11) and in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (to attend LSU for my MFA 2014) and I am currently living in Columbus, Ohio. Chris Campbell
Hi Forrest I am on the trip and REALLY looking forward to it. The chance to work in studio with those potters was too tempting to resist. My hubby will be there too as a non potter. We are planning on arriving a day early to get ahead of the jet lag. Forrest Gard
Hi Chris! Awesome I am glad you will be on the trip. Looking forward to meeting in person. I really enjoyed your recent article on Antoinette Badenhorst! I'll be there as a non potter to help even out the groups a little more. Have you been to Ireland before? Chris Campbell
No, I have flown over Ireland though. Not sure that counts. It was fun to write the article on Antoinette as she is so talented ... Will post a link on my website after the 15th.

Janet Stewart
Janet Stewart and George Pitlik look forward to meeting the tour group in Dublin. We have a pre-trip in London first. Two years ago we went to Bali with the Potters Council and had a marvelous time. George is the non-potter, so that trip was perfect for us both. We are from far West Texas, but we will not be the only Texans on the trip!
babs2015
Hi all, This is my first time ever across the pond and I've always wanted to go to Ireland and now I can do pottery too. Coming from GA and arriving on 31 in morning. My goal for that day is to get to the archeology museum because it's closed on Monday.
clay b.c.
We are June & Don MacDonald from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. We are coming as non-potters because we were too late to register for a potters space, although I (June) am a potter. Looking forward to this trip, and meeting everyone. We arrive May 30th, and after this tour will go on to take a short tour of Northern Ireland before going home.
Kathleen DeBlassie
Hello to all, We are Kathleen and Paul DeBlassie. I (Kathleen) have been working with clay for over twenty years. I have a BFA in studio art from the University of New Mexico, 1999 and an MA in Art History also from the University of New Mexico, 2010. My husband Paul is a psychologist and writer and will be attending as a non-potter. We are looking forward to this adventure! We are also musicians so we are eager to listen to the diverse music of Ireland. We will be arriving early and meeting up with our youngest daughter and her husband who live in Florence, Italy. I participated in the Ceramics in Tuscany III in 2013 which was fabulous! clay b.c.
I am surprised that more people who are going on this trip have not yet made a comment on the forum. We are very excited about the trip, not so much about the long flight though . We have been to Britain and to Scotland, but never to Ireland, and about 200 years ago my father's family emigrated to Canada, so it is time we saw the country. I wish I could figure out how to attach my photo, which is probably really simple but I can't get it to work.
elsclay
I'm El (short for Elisa) and I am arriving on the 31st with my Mom, Hilli (or Hilja which she hates). She is a tai chi teacher and a published writer, and she is originally from Finland. I am "the potter," and she the "non-potter." I am a hand builder, but I have tried my hand at throwing and am not very good at it - yet. A retired art teacher, I came to clay fairly recently as compared to other art media that I still work with as well. Recently I've been painting more than doing clay, mainly because of some opportunities I have to display 2D art. But I love clay and am so excited to meet other clay people and their companions, visit and work in clay studios and see Ireland with my Mom, too. How great! I will want to write about this in my blog for sure. elsclay.blogspot.com

Chris Campbell
After looking at the 10 day weather forecast, I went out and bought a raincoat with a hood ... Looking forward to meeting you all!
elsclay
Definitely a raincoat. And I think warmer clothes for Ireland than I'd wear in NJ this time of year. Who are the Newbies who didn't give their names on the forum? Maybe you shall remain mysterious until dinner on the 31st? El
babs2015
Don't forget water proof shoes if you have them. So far Dublin's forecast for Sunday and Monday is rain. Just typical Irish weather. Bridget

Patricia Griffin
Hi All! Been a whirlwind to get ready for the trip, so I'm late checking in to introduce myself. My husband and I will depart tomorrow morning, enroute from California's drought-suffering central coast to the greener grass of Ireland. (Still some pots to trim before I pack for the trip!) I'm the potter and have a studio gallery in Cambria, CA. My husband is retired. Looking forward to meeting you all!
