Evelyne Schoenmann
We need pictures! I know the feeling of excitement. I have always stomach cramps an hour before opening the kiln.... Don't copy/paste me, oldlady Fingers crossed everything is to your liking! Evelyne

oldlady
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! all is good. the temp was down to 137 which is 25 degrees higher than the actual temperature. i use gloves to lift shelves and pots so i do not get burned. ( I have opened it when it was hot in the past) a few beauties came out spectacularly. i will post photos when i can. a couple were disappointing because when i needed to make more Oribe green glaze, i did it with more copper than normal. ( the new copper carb is weaker than what i was used to.) so, some of the pots glazed from the almost empty bucket came out weakly green and the new bucket green is REALLY dark. and, as sometimes happens, some of my spray application was not heavy enough in places. so, the weak ones will be lightly sprayed and refired at the bottom of the kiln someday. a combination of 2 of Wettlaufer's glazes worked wonderfully well, i put a matte purple on a fish and sprayed his fins and tail with the shiny white gloss. it did magic on the fins and tail. will be doing that again! i had a tray done in Pebble Beach, the pitiful blue i am trying to use up, a commercial glaze. it had not sold in 3 trips out. i covered it with Sapphire blue and it came out gorgeous. will sell now. now it is time for pricing and packing. ugh................ Marcia Selsor
Glad it was a basically good load. I had to stop raku firing due to rain. Got one successful slab today. My pyrometers are acting strange. Must look up "OL".
giltex
I did the same thing this morning 7:30 am, heavy gloves and all. Also getting ready for a craft show in 2 weeks. Several good surprises, 1 beautiful berry bowl with a small crack that I'll give to my daughter. Overall a good firing. bciskepottery
In every kiln load, there needs to be those items for the sales table and some items for yourself -- to give to your friends or keep for yourself. That is your balance. So, go ahead and keep some for yourself.
Pugaboo
Oldlady, The way you describe them makes them sound simply amazing and I'm dying for pictures! I hope you took the time to take some BEFORE your show since I am positive they sold at the show. I'm glad you had a good firing and hope you had a fabulous show. I completely give you permission!!! One day when you are old like I am, you will be really happy you did. About being old, you are only as old as you feel. My 26 year old daughter says I am 17.... GiselleNo5
I just bought a whole pint of glaze just because it's a color I want to use to make a set of dinner plates for myself.
Pugaboo
Giselle - I've done that! I've been working on a design and color scheme for my own dishes so have been testing glazes to see which I personaly like best and want in my own kitchen. Isn't it wonderful to be able to do that?
