PSC
The classroom where i teach has a brent cxc. Before we went on christmas break all was fine. The first time i turned it on since we got back it makes a noise. I've removed the guard on the belt and found the belt slipped off the wheel about half of its width. With the help of our physical plant manager he was able to get the belt back on but only by loosening the wheel and bringing the wheel farther down the wheel shaft. He thought the wheel and the shaft that leads to the motor had become unaligned because leaving the wheel where it was only resulted in the belt running back off halfway of its width as it spun. So currently the wheel is almost at the end of the wheel shaft, actually the wheel now sits about 1/8th inch past the shaft. I am not sure if this is the right place for it seem at least it should sit flush with the shaft. Any advice? He also oiled the shaft leading into the motor and the spinning shaft at the bottom of the motor and the shaft the belt wheel is on and up by the wheel head. But the wheel is still making noise, not the same noise but still a noise that the other brents in the room do not make. Its louder running and as it slows down has louder 'errrrrr' sound. Help would be appreciated. Talk to me as if i know nothing about motors as i don't know much.
TJR
I have a Brent CXC. It is a Cadillac wheel. Had mine for 35 years. It started making a grinding noise. It's the bearing in the motor. I talked to my shops guy at school. This is my personal wheel, not a school one. He has a big hydraulic jack for pulling gears and bearings. He replaces it. cost me $50.00. Could have cost $150.00 New wheel-$1500.00 There are two bolts on the front of the Brent that hold the motor on. You can loosen those, put the belt back on and tighten back up. Cost-nothing. TJR.
