High Bridge Pottery
Does anybody have information on how this stuff works? How does it self glaze? Somebody in my studio wants to make some sculptures from it and rent my kiln so I am looking for a bit of education in this area.
oldlady
find out where he is getting the clay, contact the manufacturer and make sure it will not screw up your firings in future.
Babs
If it self glazes and he wants to fire it in your kiln , sculptures not beads, how are you gonna protect your shelves?? Eygptian paste self glazes to form attractive glazes at low temp. but it's usually used for beads etc which are suspended. Haven'tthe recipe here but it was discussed here relatively recently, the stuff you're speaking of may be quite different but the above would concern me. High Bridge Pottery
I did give the company a quick ring yesterday but their main ceramics tech is on holiday till the 19th. It seems to say it is fired to 1200-1240degC http://www.bathpotters.co.uk/parian-casting-slip/p4741 Good point with the shelves, I will have to do a small test first before firing a full kilns worth. I don't know if I could bisque the clay and then apply extra batt wash to the bottom to stop it sticking. I have a delivery of quite a bit of glaze materials today so I will talk with the supplier and see if he has ever used the stuff.
