PotteryLodge
I have some commercial earthenware and I'm wanting to change the color of some of the clay to black so that I can marbleize the two colors together. Can I use mason stains in commercial clay? Is is possible to wedge in black underglaze?
Tyler Miller
Check out Chris Campbell's website, her posts on here, and her Facebook group devoted to this very thing. She's got it developed to a very high level.
Chris Campbell
Mason Best Black stain should work well ... Try some tests using around 5 - 6% stain by weight. Black underglaze is not concentrated enough and has other ingredients you don't need for coloring clay.
