It Is Potters Council Advisory Board Election Nominations Time Again.

Hi all Potters Council members.

It is that time of year again.  Annual elections.  We need your suggestions for potential candidates for the coming Advisory Board elections.

We need to fill one general Board seat, and the Chair Elect position.

Of course these folks need to be current paid members... so the Nominating Committee will check about any suggestions made to be sure that is the case.  They also need to have the kind of experience and leadership skills that one would expect a Board member to have.  And they have to be willing to serve, and have the time to serve.

Think about whom you would like to see heading the organization as the new Chair (after one year's experience as Chair Elect). Think about who would make a good general Board member. Then get those ideas to me ASAP.  Email to >>>> JBaymore ( the AT sign) compuserve.com.

And yes... you can nominate yourself.  If you are embarrased to do that.... have a friend do it.

One of the Nominating Committee 's jobs is to then take the list of potential candidates put forth by the current Board members and the membership, and if it is too large to make a reaonable slate of candidates for an effective voting process, narrow it down to the "best of the best".

ASAP up there means in the next TWO DAYS.  Don't procrastinate.  "Do or do not... there is no try." - Yoda

THANKS!

best,

....................john

Just received this in an email from Potters Council ...

Please email your nominations for the Potters Council Advisory Board member position to me, JBaymore AT compuserve.com no later than December 10, 2014. Be sure to include “PC Advisory Board Nomination†in the email subject line.

THANKS TO YOU ALL for extending the deadline.

Chris,

The deadline never was "reduced"..... so it was not "extended".

My forum posting here was simply a "call to action". A standard advertising approach to get things happening. If you don't ask for action immediately, people procrastinate. Then the deadline passes.. .. .. and things don't happen. Human nature.

This CALL TO ACTION has already resulted in a 100% increase in the nominations from the membership that is not already somehow related to the Board. We got ONE person from the forum throw their own hat into the ring themselves (THANK YOU PROFUSELY!!!!!!). That has not happened in the past TWO election cycles. The past two... the Nominating Commiittee members had to review membership lists and solicit specific people.

THIS is a far better thing for the health of the organization.

Anyone else got ideas???????? Lets make this at least a 200% increase. ;)

best,

..................john

PS: Chris, can you please change the @ sign in my email address above to (the AT sign) as I had done above. I don;t want the active hyperlink in a forum like this. Thanks. I could do it as a Mod... but it is more appropriate for me to ask you to do it. :)

@JBaymore@Chris Campbell,

Both of you have an impressive track record with your involvement/engagement with the Potter's Council.  Would you mind sharing some of the details of what Advisory Board Members do during their terms?  I understand the commitment to the conference phone calls, but what else does the PC expect of Advisory Board members?

Thanks,

-Paul

Good question. The board members serve of committees. That list on John's announcement is being updated. It was old.

We meet for conference calls to discuss old and new business, approve activities and reports such as Carolyn's conferences'

activities, future plans, etc. Depending on the committee there would be brain storming for benefits, outreach to the membership and clay communities, sponsorship of established regional conferences like the Alabama Clay Conference.

Once a year we meet in person at NCECA for a general board meeting. We also volunteer to man the booth and members show at the NCECA conference.

What's also needed are ideas and energy .... Because an idea is nothing until somebody does something.

In my time on the Board some ideas blossomed and others never got going ... While we were all willing to pitch in at any time, someone had to care enough to take the lead. Most of the Board at that time were working potters so we had to plan for the extra time needed to head a committee or phone around to research something ... we had to pick one or two projects and stay with them. So yes, you would be asked to head up a committee but it was never high pressure or rush, rush, rush. There are three months between meetings. Some things happened quickly and others needed time.

One thing I would guarantee anyone who takes on this job is a high degree of satisfaction when you can actually deliver a new benefit or improve on an old one. Or the pleasure in seeing that a united group can exert influence on a real problem. I love knowing that someone can now get health insurance, lower shipping rates, lower credit card fees, entry to a major show, access to wonderful teaching conferences simply because over the years a changing group of people did the work ... with the help and backing of ACerS.

In the print issue of Potters Pages that you will recieve later in the winter will be candidate statements for the slate of candidates and also the voting ballot. There will also be a link sent to the Potters Council membership (those in good standing.... so check your dues) for online voting.

best,
