As long as I have been working in clay and having fired kilns more times than I want to imagine, I have never had a Kiln Opening event/party.  I have seen announcements, blog posts, and Facebook pages that included references to these events...and I really do get the excitement of that first view of glazed work when the kiln is first opened.  So, what are you doing (or have seen) that makes for a great kiln opening event?

I guess it depends on the people that are attending, If it's students they don't need anything, the high from the excitement of unloading the kiln is enough.  If customers are attending maybe some wine and cheese and a little music.  When I was in college thefts were so high the professors were grading work in the greenware stage.  They would announce when kilns were being unloaded and if you wanted get yours you would show up.  As the work was pulled out of the kiln discussions on the glazes, firing process and weight of the pieces would start. I went to them even when I didn't have any work in the firing.   Denice

Oh @Chris Campbell... who would do such a thing *snicker*!?!?   (I was actually wondering what others might think of doing the same thing)...but it is YOUR show after all and I've never seen an announcement that included "be the first people to ever view the new work coming from the kiln".

Soooo... if one has a bunch of new work that no one has ever seen,  it is possible to load it all into a kiln and announce a kiln opening party, right?  I hear someone in the back saying, "Why go to that much trouble...just call it a Studio Tour".
