I have found a cup of expresso gets me in production mode.

How strong?? Just finished a big batch of work and my other life is pretty busy so I thinking it is going to be a bit hard to get a start on another batch.

Drunk in you r work area?

break that not quite good enough to keep thingy that you made a long time ago and trash it.  very liberating.

Tha sounds ok to me, I'll go down tomorrow and borrow my partner's hammer, he says that I destroy the surface of the hammer, is this possible??

Doing something different. Yesterday a couple of friends came over & we did a raku firing with my old electric kiln. We had awesome results. A very satisfying day. It was only the second time I have done this. It worked much better with 3 people with quick opening & closing of the kiln kept it nice & hot.

Hammers are inexpensive. Buy your own, paint it pink so your partner won't borrow it, and smash away. Cheaper than getting a new partner.

  • 2 weeks later...

Nothing happens in my studio without coffee first...then, if I need a B12-level-motivation, it is either an oldies station on the radio or 2-3 of my favorite Chicago or Blood, Sweat & Tears CD's.  And I feel so much better knowing that this is a recurring theme among clay artists that I have come to respect here on CAD.

This morning, it is definetly Chicago time...cranking up Saturday in the Park,
WARNING: Attempting to clap with the music while wheel-throwing can get really messy!

Ha, I used to do this often in the classroom, with my own pots that did not turn out very well in the greenware stage, sometimes even bisque, just drop them on the floor and let them shatter. So empowering, so shocking! Of course our standards, and student standards are miles apart. The other trick was to throw that recently thrown 25-30 inch jar into the Walkers hopper all in one piece while it was running. I used to love to carry it from the wheel room into the back of the main room tossing it in a big arch. :P

Just turned off packed tight 35 cubic car kiln bisque.

Drying some press molded platters and square plates in our last 74 degree sunny days-also drying pots in sun to fill and electric in am. Looks like a rainy week next week and we need it.

It will be a short work day as I have to BBQ 75#s of albacore tuna lions for 300 people later tonight for a fund raiser-dinner /auction (also donate work for auction)-I'm one of 2 fish cooks.

There is a seperate tri-tip cook on another bbq as well.
