eoteceramics
Hi, I'm looking for some advice I want to add a bit more texture/ depth to my work. I wanted to pick out detail in a blue wash and wonder can I use mason stains to do this? I usually colour with slips, can I use these over the stain or will they obscure the stain. Thanks so much , Julia
Marcia Selsor
Best to mix mason stains with something as a bonder. This is for low fire : 1/3 mason stain 1/3 EPK 1/3 Frit 3110 Quantity of mason stain could vary depending on its intensity.
Chris Campbell
Under glazes also work well for this.
JLowes
I have use my clay body (B-mix in this instance) and Mason stain thinned to a slip to highlight detail in bisque fired pieces, painted on underglaze (Amaco Velvets) to color certain elements, and covered the whole with clear glaze and fired them. I also make and uses washes on bisque similarly. John
