Underglazes

I normally use Amaco Velvets and love the matt surface they give you once fired. They're pretty expensive here in the UK, so looking for an alternative underglaze I can stock up on.  I bought a load of Duncan Concepts expecting them to be matt but they were glossy...not what I wanted.  Basically with the velvets I could fire them with pieces touching and they wouldn't fuse to each other...whilst the concepts do.

Can anyone recommend a brand of underglazes that fire to a matt finish?  I'm looking at Gare Fun Strokes and Duncan Cover Coat, and although the cover coat info states it's matt opaque, I can't find any info on the Gare Fun Strokes...matt or glossy?

Thanks!

Neil,

How do the Speedball glazes compare to Amaco?  I've been using Amaco for years in my classroom, and am a fan, but they are pricey.  The last couple years, I have bought them in a "classroom pack", because it's a cheaper option.  The downside is that you have to go with a set selection of colors.

I've been looking for a cheaper alternative, but haven't found one yet.

Speedball are generally much cheaper than Velvets, and they hold up great at cone 6. The only colors I've had issues with are the red and royal blue. They tend to flux out a bit and react with the clear glaze, causing a rough area. All the rest of the colors are great though. Clay-king.com has 40-50% off sales all the time, and they come really thick so it comes out to about $4 per pint or less by the time you water them down.
