hershey8
I'm not sure tightening the band around my kiln is an option. Is there another way I can shim, cement, or other wise firm up some of those bricks that are tiny bit loose? I cut and replaced a few, and am now getting another lesson on how it is not a perfect universe. Also anything simple to make kiln cement from? Almost there! Maybe. ja
neilestrick
Tightening the band is the normal way of doing it. Why can't it be tightened? Bricks shrink over time, so the band has to be tightened every now and then.

I guess I could put a ratchet strap each one and take screws out and tighten it that way. I finally got all the elements back in, hoping they'll settle down deep in the groove when they heat up. We'll see. j

Well the seam appears to be under the lid support system. Maybe I can live with a little looseness for a while. Looks like it just up in the top band. Hey, has it been your experience that elements settle after firing? j
neilestrick
Yep, they often bury them under the hinge system, which is totally stupid. They put them there because it looks better, but it's a total hassle. In my experience, if the elements are not well seated in the grooves they will often pop out when firing, rather than seat in. Thanks. I'll keep adjusting the elements. Next ones may be store bought. ja
Babs
In that case, pin the little mothers, but don't destroy your bricks.
