Very Powerful Sales Tool

Recommended Posts

I was at a show the 1st weekend of August which is near Canada but in US.

One of my customers from over the border had picked out a small pot but was short the cash and had forgot here check book. Her friend had her visa card and was to shed her later that night. I wrapped up the pot and wrote her a I owe you an back of card.

Check came yesterday and she wrote it for the difference of currencies so I did not loose any money. She wrote me a very nice note about trusting her which no one seems to do anymore.

When I do this I have a customer for life. You need to feel the situation out as its not for every forgotten purse. But when its right its very solid.

I experienced this from the customer side ... I wanted to buy a pot from a potter who did not accept cards, and I did not have my checkbook. No problem, they handed me an invoice with an address to send my check, and the pot. I was so humbled by the trust, I mailed out the check as soon as I got home.

I've never run into the situation as a seller, where a customer has forgotten their purse, but in my experience I have definitely met some customers who I would have trusted with an invoice.

I've done this twice. First time it was for a platter and the couple who bought it came back with cash the same day, second time was for a yarn bowl and I was mailed a cheque. Both times the customers were very appreciative and surprised that I would do that.

I think it reaffirms peoples belief in trust and decency. Even if they never buy another pot from me it is a positive experience for them. Fingers crossed that if and when I do it again I won't get burned but I'm willing to take that chance.

have done this over the years.  have yet to have someone not send a check and a note.  last year, two sisters were shopping and one did not have any money and I cannot take cards. I wrapped the pot and they were back within an hour with the missing wallet which had fallen to the floor in their car.
