What Type Of Wheel Is This?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got a pottery wheel that I purchased 10+ years ago from my high school pottery teacher but I haven't had the time to throw in years and unfortunately don't foresee myself having the time to throw again until I'm retired (which is still a loonnggg time away).  I'd like to sell my wheel to someone who would get use out of it but I haven't been able to find any information regarding who made the wheel or what they typically sell for.  I was hoping someone on the forum might recognize it and at least let me know the manufacturer even if it's tough to give an estimated value.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not sure of the manufacturer, but I'd say price it at two to three hundred dollars.  It looks in good condition, I'd make sure the motor is running, if not it will sell on the low end.  People looking for wheels, tend to search for electric wheels.  They are smaller and lighter.  So because of that, kick wheels don't bring big money.

Estirin Manufacturing from Canada. They are totally out of business.  I have one and it is a wonderful light weight kickwheel.  Love it for trimming.  It sort of reminds me a tiny bit of a Japanese/Korean wooden wheel in the way it "feels" (but WAY more momentum).

I sometimes use it for demos.  It moves by rolling on the edge of the flywheel.... convenient.

I never use the motor (but have it).

I'd be thinkiing more like $100-150.  You can find the Cadalliac of kickwheels (The Lockerbie) used for $250-300 and the second place Randalls at about the same.

best,

It's an Estrin out of Vancouver, Canada. Out of business for probably 20 years. Sell for $150.00. Randal wheels up here sell for $650-$700.00.You just don't see them.

Estrins were a fairly common high school wheel back in the day. Been replaced by Brents.
