An Introduction To New Member

Recommended Posts

Welcome Andreza.

Please go to your profile page and add some information about yourself and maybe even an Avatar. It always makes it feel like more of a community when people introduce themselves, who they are and where they come from. For instance, where is the Academy of Art and Design?

this is for those of us who have figured out how to post the info that is missing in the new members profiles.

it took me several months to figure out how to get the software to KEEP the info i had posted.  if someone is unfamiliar with the way it is done, their profile comes out bare.  yes, i know i am the perfect candidate for " computer illiterate of the century" award, but if you would just try to make it easier, we would see more accurate and detailed profiles.

one of you real experts try posting a new profile as a new member and you might see what i mean.  get someone unfamiliar with the forums to become a member, sit side by side and watch what happens.  don't just take it over and in a few keystrokes fix it, notice where the problems are.

lots of the new members we see only post one thing and then they are gone.  is it simple frustration???  look at some of the recent posts by new members and notice that many of the OPs have not returned at all.  it seems silly to me to claim thousands of members when many never come back.

I tried registering a new account. I think the hardest thing could be finding the top bar and realising that your name has a drop down menu with more options.

After that I would think people would choose my profile or my settings but I don't know. That seems intuitive to me so I don't know if it is for others or not. It is a little weird that the profile had a lot less for editing your profile than my settings. Only a box where your avatar would be saying change but not very easy to notice.

Once you are in my setting I think it is easy from there. Sorry OldLady but I don't know how you missed the save button at the bottom of the page.

I don't think there is much they can do as I guess this is a pre-packaged forum design. The difference I find between good and bad users of computers is they are worried they might press the wrong button or do something that breaks the computer. That is not really possible with a Mac or Windows computer. In most software the way you learn it to press every button and see what happens. If it doesn't work, undo it. If you totally break it, start again from the beginning.
