jrgpots Posted May 14, 2014 Report Share Posted May 14, 2014 What are the most common causes of a burner "backfiring in the tube? A. Mixing Tube too long B. Turbulent intake airflow C. Gas jet too close to the air intake D. Other I fired up my conversion kiln tonight. It was windy and the burners kept igniting in the tube, backfiring as it were. Tyler Miller Posted May 14, 2014 Report Share Posted May 14, 2014 Jed, was the issue limited to a specific psi range or did it occur across all pressures? I run a very similar venturi burner setup on my forge, and I get some backfiring under certain conditions. No guarantees that this is the case with your setup, but I'll sometimes get some intermittent burners if my air flow's too high and pressure too low. -Tyler Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

jrgpots Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Share Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks guys! It was just too windy last night. This AM I increased the pressure initially until the burners were warmed up and decreased the airflow. The roar of the dragon's breath is not quite as loud as before. So don't laugh too hard, but right now I'm using heat resistant stove tape to cover part of the inlet. Hopefully I will finish the air intakes in two days.
