smb Posted May 6, 2014 Report Share Posted May 6, 2014 Has anyone thought of attaching a vent system to one of the peep holes rather then drilling holes in the bottom or the side of the kiln? I am a welder by trade and can fabricate what I think may work to attach it to the kiln but not sure if I would be creating problem rather then an easy vent system. neilestrick Posted May 6, 2014 Report Share Posted May 6, 2014 You can vent from the side of the kiln rather than the bottom. I do it all the time. The L&L Vent-Sure is made to attach to the L&L stand, so when I install them on other kilns I mount them to the side of the kiln. I just drill the holes between the elements. Mounting to the peep hole would be way too large a hole for the vent to work properly. In a 7 cubic foot kiln you only need two 1/4 inch holes in the kiln. The idea is that it draws just enough from the kiln to create negative pressure, but it draws lot of air from the room to cool the air coming from the kiln. The air going out through the wall should be under 150 degrees, not hotter than a dryer vent. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I could see drilling a hole in a peep plug but not leaving it out entirely. Bailey seems to make good quality machinery, or has it made for them, I was surprised when I saw this.
