SmartsyArtsy
Email shimpo. I was just presented with an opp to purchase an old model and emailed them. They replied within a day giving me very valuable info and probably saved me money. Just go to their website and hit contact us

schmism
Do you have a mixer already? My research has lead me to believe that if your going to buy a pug mill. get one that has a mixing function. I mean if its a screamin deal (5-800) it may be hard to pass up just to have one. But if its not ($1500 +-) then i would just save a few more dolla bills for a mixing version. my .
Biglou13
No mixer I slurry mix my clay then dry down to throwable body. I've hand wedged 80# it was a bit of a workout Doesn't sweat improve clay. Good drill and mortar/paint stirrer It's really not that hard. Maybe I have pottery equipment lust. Mark C.
I cannot answer any of your shimpo concerns other than check on parts and service I can say that a petter mixer pugger is a great machine that is well thought out and has great parts and service. I was around two more (other than mine) on molokai and they worked well in a community art setting. One for white one for brown clays. Mark

Biglou13
Ok since I didn't hear from anyone. And against advice from shimpo. I bought it. Well me and a friend bought it. ($500) But......... It may have issues. This came from a school the teacher bought it from surplus school, sale for privates home teaching studio. I tried to pug prepared clay when I got it home and it bogged out ...... Pretty much froze. .....prepared clay!! Since. Pugs are not coming out perfectly round im assuming it needs a good cleaning. I'll post a report after disassembly and cleaning on Saturday. I'll call shimpo tomorrow and get some advice. Any advice here is greatly appreciated.! schmism
I would have advised the cleaning before you tossed clay in it. Its my understanding that dryed clay inside the bore is a recipe for disaster, but its a bit late for that tidbit Take some pics and show us the process.
