fordtruckey
Hi. Question. Can you use water to thin commercial glazes? Or do you recommend vee gum? other recommendations? Thanks!
Marian65
I use distilled water to thin my Potter's Choice and Spectrum glazes when necessary. I think it says on the jar that they can be thinned with water. Other than a few Coyote colors, those are the only brands I use, as I've had excellent results on the clay bodies I use. If the glazes don't apply well, I sprinkle in a few grains of Epsom Salts and that works great.
kennyd67
I use distilled water to thin down Mayco glazes. I have not had any problems with doing this and actually prefer a thinner glaze to work with some times.
neilestrick
Commercial glaze often come very thick, and it's okay to thin them with water. I would not try to thin them down enough for dipping, though, because the water content will be way too high to get good coverage. It's fine to thin for brushing. williamt
I thin down laguna glazes with tap water. Sometime for effect, I'll thin them down to a thick wash consistency to let the clay body show through. Usually I brush.
