AWPottery Posted March 21, 2014 Report Share Posted March 21, 2014 In a studio where I take classes, some of the potters have been putting low fire slip on high fire clay and firing it in the cone 10 reduction kiln. Is it possible you can do this? I guess I just assumed you couldn't because one is low fire and the other is not. Wouldn't there be a problem with the fit of this? GEP Posted March 21, 2014 Report Share Posted March 21, 2014 I once saw some pots where the potter had used earthenware slip on stoneware, then fired to cone 6. The slip was indeed chipping off fairly easily. In this case, the slip was just a thinned down version of a commercially bought earthenware. Which doesn't mean there is no such thing as a slip that is flexible enough for low-fire and high-fire. But it would need to be formulated for that, and tested to make sure.
