ellaofcourse
Hi there, I read recently somewhere about a simple glaze recipe consisting of 50/50 Kaolin and Nephyline Syenite. Trouble is that I cannot remember where I think I read this, and would like confirmation that this is an actual glaze recipe, and that it can be used on Feeney's Buff Raku Trachyte clay, and fired at cone 9 in oxidation atmosphere. Have tried to look into it but have had no luck. Any help you could give me would be really appreciated. Cheers, Ella
Tyler Miller
If you adjusted those values to about 75 Neph. Syenite and 25 Kaolin, maybe 80 to 20, you would have a simple shino.
Marcia Selsor
I think that is a hypothetical definition of a glaze without specifying temperature, texture, COE , atmosphere. Tweeking glazes to get what you want is much more complex. The ratio between to Radicals determines the texture, and the firing temperature. The radicals in old terminology are RO = Fluxes R2O3 =Stiffeners RO2= Glass makers This is the initial approach to glaze calculation using unity formulas.
