Hey all. I was wondering if any of you had any experience in trying to save bisque pots with s cracks in the bottom. Can they be salvaged? I was thinking of trying Amaco's Bisque Fix for this. Anyone ever used it before? Or any other suggestions?
Solutions For Cracked Pots

I have used bisque fix products before but not for obvious cracks, like a crack on the underside of the handle. The crack fix only works about half the time for me and if it did work on the s crack you would have to use a thick stable glaze like majolica to hide the repair. Denice

The answer you likely don't want to hear ... but the one that I give to students all the time is............
Make it again. Critique the form you have.... assess what is working well, and what is not working so well. Keep the stuff that is working, address the stuff that is not. Then re-make it. The new piece will always be more successful than the old if you do that. Then trash the old one.
A major breakthrough point in people's ceramic making development is when the individual pieces are no longer "prescious" to them. Unless it is something akin to "The Scarab Vase" (look it up if you don't know what that is) ........... "saving" a piece with a defect like S cracks is not really worth it.
When work is no longer prescious, you are able to explore the possibilities... and the work really blossoms. You can then freely explore my favorite phrase, "What happens if I hit it with a 2 x 4?"
You used the word "pots" not "pot". So if you get this issue at all regularly, one aspect to address in the pieces is WHY you are getting S cracks. Then try to address that technical issue.

a potter i look up to uses a phrase very often "if you don't like it then don't do that again" if you are not happy with the piece then scrap it. my works are precious to me but if it has a flaw i know that if i keep it, it will haunt me forever and it will be shoved out of site. if its precious to you then you should make it the best it can be. if its not... then you should make it the best it can be. if you hate it, then scrap it and don't do that again.
