vivk
Hi all I am quite new to glazing and am looking for tried and true recipes. I particularly want a good aubergine gloss glaze which fires at cone 6 oxidation. I am using stoneware clay. Any suggestions welcome!

Bob Coyle
Hi VivK... The first thing to learn...there is NO such thing as a tried and true recipe. next thing to learn is to google "aubergine gloss glaze" From clayart site.... Eggplant Purple -- cone 6 oxidationKona F-4 feldspar 45.7Flint 15.2Talc 12.7Gerstley Borate 12.9Dolomite 9.0EPK 4.5add:Bentonite 1.0Cobalt Carb. 2.0Manganese Carb. 5.0 You MUST Test it first... your results may and probably will vary. glaze components are different from place to place and even from year to year. vivk
Hi thanks for replying. can you get a purple from mixing cobalt oxide and Manganese dioxide?
Wyndham
The magnesium in the talc & dolomite pushes the cobalt over to the purple/lavender in the glaze along with the manganese. The base glaze components always affect the way coloring oxide behave. Wyndham
oldlady
thank you, i am running out of a dark purple i mixed from two glazes that were ugly alone but made a nice surface together. a little pansy purple mason made it great.
