Matthew Hyleck Posted July 15, 2013 Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 Eva Zethraeus – Global Studies: Using the Spere as Influence WKSP / August 24 & 25 / Baltimore Clayworks WS06 - Saturday & Sunday, 10-4pm, August 24 & 25 Fee: $120 members; $145 non-members The idea for this workshop is to work with the sphere/ globe shape as a base for both vessel based functional ceramic pieces or sculptural forms. The sphere-shape can be used in an infinite number of ways; cut open to create a bowl or jar form, adding pieces to make a teapot or by joining several together to make a more complex and dynamic form. In this 2-day workshop with Swedish artist Eva Zethraeus participants will explore a variety of methods of construction, addition, subtraction and assembly of spherical clay form as a foundation point for their artwork. Participants should expect this workshop to include lively collective critique and creative play as they explore their forms. Workshop demonstration will be supplemented with student work time and a short slide presentation illustrating various ways in which Eva utilizes the sphere in her own work. Eva Zethraeus is a ceramic artist currently living and working in Gothenburg, Sweden. She received her MFA in ceramic art at Högskolan för Design och Konsthantverk (HDK School for Design & Crafts), Gothenburg University in 1998. Although having been born in Sweden, Eva spent her first 18 years in Birmingham, England and then in Madrid, Spain. It was during the years in Spain that she developed her interest in art and ceramics, and has also influenced her style of work. Eva has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally; participating in residencies and conducting workshops in the USA, Japan and Mexico. Eva has work in the permanent collections of the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm and the Röhsska Museum for Craft and Design (Röhsska museet för konsthantverk och design) in Gothenburg, and has made several public commissions for institutions around Sweden.
