ceramics repair question

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this forum is a good place to ask this or not. I was in Japan and bought this ceramic pot (actually a foot-warmer), it is about the size of a wok and has a lid. Anyway I dropped it on the way back, in it's box, and there is a crack going all the way down the side now. Is this thing repairable? I was thinking there may be some kind of fireproof ceramic glue that would work -- but maybe not. Anyone with ceramics experience know?

Thanks for any suggestions,

sorry, but i would personally say no, there is no repair for this piece...sounds like you have a nice-size structural crack in the vessel if it goes all the way down the side. even with re-firing the piece I doubt anyone could make a repair strong enough to warrant it being "safe" to use as intended. glue it back together and just admire it.
