Kiln posts sticking?

Recommended Posts

Lately, I have been having trouble with the posts in the lower half of my glaze kiln firings stick hard to the shelf above, not to the shelf they sit on. The temps are the same as always, the posts are the same. Any guesses? Little bits of the post edges are breaking off , stuck hard to the shelves. Since this in on the bottom of the shelf, there is no kiln wash there.

Should add, some of these posts are 2nd hand, maybe very old.

I agree with TJR. All my posts are dipped in kiln wash for both gas and electric kilns.. It keeps them from dropping off as they are unloaded and breaking things.

just a 1/4" is plenty.

just a 1/4 inch of what? wash that thick? or a strip of wash 1/4 inch wide? sorry to be dense.

one quarter inch dipped on the end of the post. Not one quarter inch thick. You only need a very thin layer.

TJR.
