transparent glazes?

im having problems finding a good transparent base glaze.

every time i try a recipe ive found, it doesnt come out transparent.

ive used oxides, and stains and i cant seem to get it to break.

by transparent, i mean it gets darker in the recesses and lighter at the peaks.

(im hoping im using the right word)

im firing to 06.

is there something i can add to a glaze to make it more transparent?

or remove something?

ive tried several recipes.

generally, the more clay and other impurities in a glaze, usually results in milkyness in the resulting surface. All glazes have 3 primary ingredients to form a surface that is stable, that is flux, clay and silica.

By that right, you can always go with a standard 06 'clear' that is just those three, you can start with the following recipe, but what you are looking for is going to be mainly flux and silica with just a little clay to bind your glaze to the clay surface. ... so feel free to tweak to get perfect.

Gerstley Borate or Ferro frit 3134 50%

Silica 40%

ball clay 10%

That should be clear, tweak for visibility and stability.

I suspect you are looking for a glaze that breaks ... by that I mean a glaze that falls off high surfaces and pools in crevices.

I will post some example images and you can see if that is what you mean.
