Creating Pottery for Everyday Use

Extended Weekend Workshop

 

Create pottery for everyday use in the upbeat environment of Touchstone’s clay studio. During this workshop, participants will be encouraged to learn and polish their wheel-throwing skills, and experiment with “slump and hump†hand-building techniques. We will create functional pottery made with porcelain, and cover a wide range of methods for attaching, drying, and glazing. Participants will explore surface design, and will embellish forms through many decoration techniques, including the creation of sprig molds and stamps. Amanda Wolf is currently a full-time studio potter living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She earned her BFA at I Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2003. After graduating, she moved to Pittsburgh and began teaching in the education programs at the Carnegie Museum of Art. In 2005, Amanda began teaching at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, where she has taught for the last eight years. Her teaching philosophy is simple and rooted in her love and passion for ceramic processes. Amanda sells her work at retail craft shows around the region, and her whimsical and well-crafted pieces can be found in many galleries and shops across the country.
