Touchstone1972 Posted February 15, 2013 Report Share Posted February 15, 2013 May 17–19 at Touchstone Center for Crafts Working Flat: Tools and Techniques for Platters, Plates, and Tiles Instructor: Joseph Delphia All Levels | $200 Weekend Workshop This workshop will focus on slab, hand-building, and mold-making techniques, which can be used to create plates, bowls, platters, tiles, and other flatware. Students will have an opportunity to design and make their own molds using clay, wood, and plaster. In addition to designing their own custom molds and tools, students will also have the opportunity to use existing molds and tools to create their own work. The goal of the workshop is for the student to leave well-equipped and motivated to expand his or her body of ceramic work with a variety of shallow forms.Click on the workshop title to learn more, and click here to view the entire 2013 catalog. Joseph Delphia lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he creates wood-fired functional pottery. He makes work for everyday use, and hopes that his pots become objects that spend more time in the hand than on a shelf. Joseph is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he studied arts education, ceramics, and sculpture. He is a member of the cooperative clay studio at the Union Project, and is a faculty member in the art department at the Community College of Allegheny County, where he teaches studio art courses, including ceramics and sculpture.
