jennicad
Can I low-fire (cone 04) a glazed piece with an underglazed piece? I have a ceramic piece I am wanting to underglaze part of and glaze part of as soon as it is done bisque firing. I then want to do a wash over the underglaze. Does this require three separate firings (on top of the bisque firing) or can I fire the glazed part with the underglazed part or washed part? The underglaze/washed part are separate from the glazed part.
perkolator
essentially, yes you can. aside from waiting until bisqued, you can underglaze your greenware and then bisque, then do your glaze firing after. another thing that can be done is skip the bisque and glaze/underglaze it greenware - usually works well for sculptural work built from a grogged stoneware body, fired at low-fire temp. one of the amazing things about clay is you can repeat fire objects as well as vary your timing of when to add surface treatment, to vary your surface.
