Potterylover
I have a few stains that I've used to color slip, but whats the bet way to color a purchased white clay body? I've heard that using a mixer is good, but wouldn't that mess up the mixer?

Chris Campbell
Put the stain in a sealable plastic bag and add enough water to make it creamy. Shape your clay like a volcano and put liquid in center and wedge, wedge, wedge ... Until you like how it looks. You can also make it like a slip then let it dry to your desired clay state. If you check out the clay lessons part of my website you will see pictures and words that might help. ccpottery.com
AsHeE
I have a very basic question. I've only been back in ceramics for 10 months after 10 years of grad school. Prior to, I loved to use stains to achieve the natural, deep-brown matte color, however, I never mixed them myself back then. Can I simply mix a stain with water and apply it to greenware? Bisque-ware? Should I add anything else to the stains? What are the easiest to use? I've attached one of my favorites pieces for an example of what I'd like to achieve. Any additional information would also be greatly appreciated!!
