Guest JBaymore
I think most ceramic suppliers stock them. best, ................john
Marcia Selsor
just be careful when spraying these. They are very toxic. The Stannous chloride will give a rainbow luster when sprayed on crackle white. The ferric chloride will give a gold luster when sprayed on crackle white. Stand up wind to avoid the fumes. yedrow
I would start with US Pigments. But, whew, scary stuff, well, scares me...especially spraying scary stuff.
Harry Potter
Most chemical sources can be located by googling the chemical name. The science company is a good source for stannous chloride. By all means wear good chemical respirators when fuming.
Mark C.
I have both and have used both . The thing is wear a really good respirator as these are very nasty. Mark
terrim8
I wonder if there is a Canadian source for these. I see US companies that ship to Canada but I'd like to find out ahead of time if I need some special import papers to have the transaction go smoothly- I have the ferric chloride but its the stannous that seems hard to find here. Magnolia Mud Research
You could make stannus chloride from tin oxide and hydrochloric acid. LT
terrim8
yes, plus I saw some nice instructions on you tube. I could do it outside on a portable burner. I'll go that route if I have to!

LT Now I finally have use for my hydrochloric acid that I inherited about 40 years ago-now I need a use for the nitric and sulfuric acids-I took my whole science kit with all the chemicals from the 50's to our local high school and they turned it down as to dangerous . Magnolia Mud Research
Mark, Have you considered just having fun watching the bubbles form when mixing the acids with baking soda? … with the HCl acid the resulting mix can be used in your salt kiln. Rex Johnson
Ditto Marcia, both are highly toxic, not something to hobby around with. Lusters that you see on blown glass pieces, that's what it is. Needs to be applied on in a closed and vented area, like a closed spray booth that you are not in. What glassblowers call a 'fuming chamber'... I've come across books and web photos of people blowing these type of chemicals by mouth with a venturi jar. Makes my skin crawl. Great if you want permanent black tats on your lips and various other dermis.
