ghetto3jon
I trimmed some pots that were slightly unevenly dry, and now the outside surface is unevenly textured. They're smooth in spots, but groggy and gritty in others. Is there anything I can do at the greenware stage to homogenize the surface?
dhPotter
USe a soft rib over the trimmed areas.
Hulk
While still chucked up for trimming, try moistening the turning piece with a damp sponge, give it a while, then burnish with a metal rib.
cathydombrovske
If you need to, first you can use a fine grain sandpaper on the rough area before moistening and burnishing.
Pres
If your wheel is reversible, take a second or two to recenter, and using the wheel in reverse use a rounded wooden spoon or other tool to smooth/burnish. best, Pres
jrgpots
as mentioned, burnish it. however, if you are going to glaze the piece, the glaze will hide a multitude of clay defects or roughness. Jed
