New Talc Versus Old Talc

If a clay or slip recipe that contains talc used to work well prior to the change over from New York mined talc to Texas mined talc, but now cracks as it dries when used over the same clay body, is there a simple solution (like adding some bentonite, cmc gum or some other binder) to make it work again? Would the change in type of talk affect the shrinkage so appreciably that a larger change to the base recipe would need to be made? I'm asking as a proxy. I don't have the recipe or I'd share. So, if answers can generally speak to the types of changes that have been made to solve or address the differences in behavior between these two talcs, that would be helpful.
