Phillip Botham
9th Annual Three Potter’s Symposium Featuring Amy Sanders, Jen Mecca, Kristin Shoonover Saturday, June 15th 10am – Noon and 1pm – 4pm Amy Sanders will focus on soft slab construction while considering how stamped patterns enhance the surface, with some thrown and altered pots demonstrated as well. Some pieces will be created by pinching, folding, and draping thin slabs over molds, while others will start with simple paper tem-plates. Jenn Mecca will be demonstrating thrown and altered forms made by putting two wet, thrown pieces together and forming them after they have sat-up for a bit. She will also discuss surface decoration and how to make colored clay sprigs as well as making the molds for these. Kristin Shoonover will demonstrate layered slip decoration. All of her colors are mixed by reclaiming the scraps and adding stains and oxides. These slips are applied to leather hard pots with hard-bristled brushes, on top of hand-cut paper stencils.
