LEE6
Hello. I am new on this site. I am making tiles that will be unglazed. My question is, if these tiles will be unglazed can I skip the bisque firing? Please be kind, I am new to doing my own firings. Thank you
Babs
Yes Follow the bisque fire schedule to around 700deg.C. then do the top end as you would your glaze firing from 700dc up to end of firing.
oldlady
everyone else here is kind. i am not. but i single fire everything except when i need to transport things a thousand miles to my glaze kitchen. i single fire all kinds of things that could be described as tile(s). what kind of final product are you working toward? how will the tiles be used? do you anticipate them curling up while being fired? are they totally flat with only color added or are they thickly textured? do you fire them in setters or on shelves, flat or on their edges? nobody will steal your design if you just share what you want to end up with. LeeU
And Old Lady is very kind, regardless of what she says. She took the time to talk w/me on the phone & 1st taught me about single-firing, which I do exclusively now (except for items for community kilns). And trust me, I know for a fact that not "everyone else" here is kind, myself included.
