Polydeuces
Hey y'all— I'm just curious if anyone has ever heard of, or tried, incorporating a rocket stove-style firebox into a kiln setup? Years ago, I recall having read about thermal mass rocket stove heaters that used an insulated 50gal oil drum as a heat riser. Then, the exhaust pipes are buried in cob walls & furniture in an earthen house to heat the thermal mass & provide radiant heat. That's all well & dandy—but I was curious about applying this setup to a kiln where the kiln would essentially replace the oil drum as the "heat riser," and not intended for heating a house as well (though maybe an outdoor hot tub . So long as you could get the draw on the flame going, it could potentially be way more efficient than the average wood-fired kiln. That said, I don't know how comparable or desirable the effects would be in comparison.
