Judith B
Hello everyone, The other day at a stunning exhibition in Tokyo I came across the technique of washizome and nunozome, which is painting ceramics using paper or fabric as a medium to transfer the colour onto clay. You can see the process in this video: [Edit, wrong video, see Hantremmer's post below] I have been trying to find the name of this technique in English to no avail. Would any one know how this transfer technique is called?
Roberta12
Judith, I watched the video and it was painting on pots. Either UG or cobalt ox. I don't know if it has another name. I did like the potters gestures with his brush. Roberta
JohnnyK
I must have missed something in the translation of the video...when did the paper or fabric transfer happen? Seems like this video was a watercolor painting technique. JohnnyK
Chris Campbell
Is it the wrong video? Looks like underglaze painting on bisque. With colored clay slips you can paint on fabric and transfer it to greenware.
hantremmer
Is it this video?

Rae Reich
I would call these "transfers" in the same way that decals are transfers, only these are paper based.
