karenkstudio
I talked with a potter who has a nice studio/gallery space that had an open house event with a percentage of the sales going to a popular local nonprofit organization. Working with this organization was a way to expand her customer base and bring new people into her gallery.
docweathers
I give away as much of my art as I can as a way of supporting community projects. It gives me something to do with my stuff, which I enjoyed making, and it provides a lot of support for local do-gooder organizations without having to cough over with cash. I'm always looking for some new group to give my stuff to. Though I don't try to sell my stuff, occasionally someone who lost in the bidding war for my piece wants to come over to see what else I have and buy something. I have to admit to not giving away my favorite stuff.
