MarkS
Looking for a good Robin's egg blue glaze - cone 6 oxidation. I've thought about taking an existing commercial glaze - Mid South Turquoise and perhaps adding a little copper carbonate and/or cobalt carbonate. I know it would be an experiment but it's not quite turquoise enough for me. Any thoughts?
bciskepottery
Another way is to add Mason stain to a good ^6 clear . . . So Clear ^6 Frit 3124 32.2% Soda Feldspar -- Kona F4 (Minspar) 25.8% Silica 19.4% Whiting 12.9% Kaolin -- EPK 9.6% Add 5% Mason Stain #6464 for Robin's Eggshell Blue (recipe from Michael Sherrill workshop)
MarkS
The stain is a good idea. Is that number a typo? Came up as a yellow I think I'm really looking for a deeper turquoise.
Chris Campbell
The Robins Egg Blue Mason stain is accurately named ... that is exactly what it looks like. When I want a greener look I add some Bermuda Green to it. They also make some nice turquoise colors. The Mason website has good images and technical details. clay lover
Look at the Enviro Opulence colors at Mid South, one of them, either meadow or everglade, is a good turquiose, IMHO. And a great smooth eggshell soft finish.
