Hello,

I am a student at nottingham trent university.

I am working with Earthenware casting slip

Specifically semi porcelin casting slip from pot clays.

I am wanting to acheve a matte black finish for that scandanavian sort of look.

I have attached a picture to show the matte black finish i am looking for.

Any info on where i can buy this stuff or how achieve it would be a great help!

Thank you

:D Nice to meet a fellow northerner.

Looking at the pictures it will be better to use a black glaze than colour the clay. You have a couple of options, potclays or ctm ceramics probably sell an earthernware glaze that you could use that is the right temperature or you could find a satin transparent glaze recipe for the temperature you need and add colouring oxides (iron, manganese and cobalt) to make black.

If you don't need much glaze you are probably better off going commercially made.

There is a commercial glaze called ..........heirloom silver...?????  I think.

Anyway, it fires to a matt finish, similar to the first link,  It's not black, but not definitely not silver either.

I'll go down to the studio later and see if I can find the pot and sample.
