Repair Exterior Of Kiln Lid

Recommended Posts

rannedom    0

Hi!

I'm sprucing up a couple of old Skutt 1027s for use in a community studio.  One of them has some gouges/crumbly areas on the exterior of the lid that I'd like to patch up if possible.   What's the correct product to use for this?  Amaco kiln cement?  Sairset?  Something else?

Thanks!

Any kiln cement product will work. Water it down, it should be a very thin coat. Too thick and it will curl up and pull off more brick.

Welcome to the forum rannedom,

Kiln patch cement is available from most ceramic suppliers, but I would think with crumbling, that it may be better to replace the lid. Maybe even get a thicker one for better isulation value.

best,

Pres

Thanks for the replies! I'll pick up some kiln cement.

I'd definitely like to replace the lid at some point--it's on the long to-do list. Thanks!
