bluecreekpottery
I was reading another post on here and it said something about cracking the lid or keeping peep holes open when firing an electric kiln. Are you supposed to? Is it bad that I don't? And for bisque? Glaze? Or both?
Babs
Yea, bungs out till 700deg C in Bisque Bungs out from start to 200dC in glaze for me if I know glazed ware may be still a bit wet
bciskepottery
Is your kiln vented? If yes, then leave the top down and peeps in; if not, you might want to leave the top peep out. Lid hinges are really not designed to be propped open. My kiln is, so I leave the top closed and peeps in for both bisque and glaze firing. Pugaboo
My kilns have downdraft vents so for the larger during Bisque I leave the top peep open but keep them all closed for glaze firing. The small kiln I keep the peep closed at all times. T
neilestrick
If you have a downdraft vent, keep all peeps closed. If you don't, keep the top peep open for the entire firing. No need to prop the lid.
Denice
My professor in college was leaving the peeps out during the bisque and glaze firing, He was working with low fire glazes that were mostly bright primary colors, he said he got cleaner colors leaving the peeps out. I have a down draft system so my peeps stay in. Denice
